Worship in Spirit and Truth

Category: Spiritual Life, Christian Living

We were made for God's glory; made to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. To understand why were created is to be able to live in response to our designed purpose. What is the starting place of understanding our purpose? The proper response of the creature to the Creator is to worship. In Jesus' discourse with the woman at the well, we discover Jesus' most detailed teaching on the subject of worship.  In His conversation with the Samaritan woman, Jesus confronts her moral state and her...keep reading»»

We're not in Kansas anymore

Category: Christian Living, Spiritual Life, Thinking Christianly

It is a strange world indeed when Salman Rushdie is the voice of reason and Joel Osteen is a fundamentalist bigot, but that was the world of CNN this past weekend.  I'm not sure if you are a newsie or not, but CNN provided a snapshot into the late-modern soul this weekend that is worth reflecting upon.  CNN is one of the loudest and at times most overbearing voices in support of homosexual normalization in our culture and they seem to delight in bringing in pastors and celebrities...keep reading»»

The less sensational truth about "Jesus' Wife"

Category: General Theology, Christian Living, WTTB FAQ

Every couple of years we get a new release from among the many discovered scraps of heresy associated with the Gnostic Gospels.  CNN will run a story on how "new evidence suggests that Jesus might have retired in Ephesus" or "had seven children" or "moved to France to open a bakery"; this week the headline reads: "Jesus might have had a wife".  A tiny scrap of papyrus about the size of a business card contains a snippet of dialogue in which...keep reading»»

Hey all, Pastor Paul here.  With the start of the school year many parents are busy signing up little Johnny for hockey, piano, competitive spelling and who knows what else.  By November we tend to be over-committed, over leveraged and over caffeinated as we try and stay awake driving back and forth from early morning practices and early afternoon recitals.  Why do we do this?  What are the consequences?  Timothy Paul Jones has written a very timely article on the...keep reading»»

Head Coverings

Category: General Theology, Christian Living, WTTB FAQ

Hi all, Pastor Paul here.  In our readings this morning we read a passage that has generated MANY questions over the course of my ministry.  I taught on the issue in question last week up at MBC.  The audio from those sessions will be available on our website shortly (hopefully next week) but for now, here is a text excerpt that might be helpful to those struggling to make sense of this difficult Scripture: We'll begin this morning with one of the most complicated texts in all...keep reading»»

Driving the Churches away

Category: Christian Living

Hi all, Pastor Paul here.  I used to find it slightly ridiculous when Canadians talked about being persecuted.  Usually they meant "less privileged" or "lesser resourced" - hardly a comparable reality to the fate of Christians in places like Egypt and Afghanistan.  However, things are starting to change.  There are some very disturbing movements afoot right here at home making it reasonable for Canadian Christians to speak of legitimate...keep reading»»

Rapidly Gathering Storm

Category: Christian Living

Hi all, Pastor Paul here.  It is remarkable how fast things are changing in our culture on a few landmark issues.  Last week a man with a gun walked into the Family Research Council and opened fire, claiming to be outraged at the FRC's position on homosexuality.  The Southern Poverty Law Center had deemed the FRC a "hate-group"; that's right, a "hate-group".  Do you know why they were so listed alongside white supremacists and neo-nazis? Because they...keep reading»»
