Contrary to what you may have heard, contrary to what many churches today seem to believe, the “merge lane” of the Christian is actually the most dangerous place in the world. If you stay there too long you may come to believe that you are a Christian when in fact you are nothing of the sort. Life in the merge lane can actually inoculate seekers against the truth of the Christian Gospel. People who have “paced the saints” for a mile or two and then fallen away are the most damned and desperate...keep reading»»

Psalm 91

Category: WTTB Reflections

This morning in our RMM Bible readings we read Psalm 91.  Scholars debate the original authorship of the Psalm.  You will notice that there is no title or ascription as with most Psalms.  Some scholars say that it was written by Moses (as was Psalm 90) and that it represented a prophetic prayer over Joshua.  Certainly it makes sense to read it that way, but a larger number of scholars believe it was written by David over his son Solomon in particular and the Davidic Kings in...keep reading»»

Testing New Believers

Category: WTTB Reflections

In John 8 we find one of the strangest narratives in all of the New Testament.  The story begins positively enough:  "As he was saying these things, many believed in him." Let’s float a balloon and party with the angels because many folks, apparently, have been well and truly saved.  But wait just a minute.  Consider the very next verse: Keep Reading...keep reading»»

Trinity, Equality and Love

Category: WTTB Reflections

The Trinity is the bedrock of Christian belief and devotion.  This morning's RMM reading in John 5 is an important passage for our understanding of the inner workings of the God-head and serves as an important analogy for the human relationship of marriage.  I've linked a brief reflection that you can find here. keep reading»»
