FAQ - Saved through childbearing?

Category: Pastor's Q&A, WTTB FAQ, General Theology

I'm not sure if I said this on Sunday but it probably should have been said.  1 Timothy 2:15 is a complicated verse and is easily misunderstood in English.  Women, Paul says: will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control. (ESV) Obviously not every woman who rears a child is going to heaven, so what does this mean?  The word used here (sood-zo) has a wider semantic range than the English word saved.  In Greek it can be...keep reading»»

We're not in Kansas anymore

Category: Christian Living, Spiritual Life, Thinking Christianly

It is a strange world indeed when Salman Rushdie is the voice of reason and Joel Osteen is a fundamentalist bigot, but that was the world of CNN this past weekend.  I'm not sure if you are a newsie or not, but CNN provided a snapshot into the late-modern soul this weekend that is worth reflecting upon.  CNN is one of the loudest and at times most overbearing voices in support of homosexual normalization in our culture and they seem to delight in bringing in pastors and celebrities...keep reading»»

Divorce

Category: Pastor's Q&A

Question: Hey Pastor Paul, another question for you. If a couple gets divorced on grounds that are not biblical and they remarry, does God consider their new marriages legit? Say the couple got divorces while they were non christians , remarried and became christians. Do they divorce their new spouse because the bible says they can't remarry after an unbiblical divorce. What if they r christians and they get divorced and remarry? Thanks Answer: Thanks for the question.  It is perhaps...keep reading»»

Homosexuality

Category: Pastor's Q&A

Hey Friends, This past week I was asked a question  I have encountered a few times over the last few years.  In the Providence of God I had just read an article addressing the topic earlier in the week.  Here is the question with the answering article to follow.  Hope you find this useful: Question:  A friend of mine is gay and he says that Jesus never said anything about homosexuality one way or the other.  Is that true?  I know that the Old Testament talks...keep reading»»

Waiting on the Lord's promises

Category: Pastor's Q&A

QUESTION: I know some promises in the Bible are for the future and for heaven, but others are for right now.  How can I know which are which?  How can I avoid "claiming things" I am supposed to be waiting and hoping for. ANSWER: Great question!  I will be dealing with that over the next month or so in my messages but let me address that at least partially now by giving a quote from D.A. Carson's book "How Long O Lord."  Carson says: In this day when...keep reading»»

QUESTION: Dear Pastor Paul Carter, I was reading sections of the bible and came across a verse that concerns me a little bit and I have a few questions. I read Revelations 21:8 "But the cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars-their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." (NLT). For starters I am a Christian and therefore saved by faith in Jesus and the cross. However...keep reading»»

QUESTION: I want to be a forgiving person but there is someone who has wronged me deeply that has never apologised and never even acknowledged the hurt that he has caused me.  How can I forgive someone like that? ANSWER:  I want to answer this carefully and compassionately.  I have been asked this sort of question by women who have been raped, children who have been molested and wives who have been abandoned for a newer model.  This is real life stuff.  Let me first...keep reading»»
