(Editor's Note: Today's FAQ is answered by Ryan Shevalier. Ryan is one of our interns this summer and is currently enrolled at Briercrest College where he is working towards his B.A. in Biblical Studies.) Question: If only the elect can respond to the Gospel, why do we preach the Gospel to all people?  Should we? Answer: The simple answer to this question is yes, we must preach the Gospel to all people. This is because we do not know who the elect are, thus making it impossible to...keep reading»»

FAQ With Pastor Jody - Election #2

Category: Pastor's Q&A

Question: Does it make sense to pray for the lost if it all depends on the election of God? Answer: We read in Ephesians 1:11, “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will.” According to this verse, we might think, “if God has already predestined those who will be saved, and if He works all things, in this case, the salvation of the elect according to His will and ways, why should we...keep reading»»

FAQ With Pastor Paul - Election

Category: Pastor's Q&A

Question:  How can I know if I am one of the elect? Answer: The only way to answer that is by knowing the answer to another question: “What does an elect person look like?”  The Bible is clear that in our fallen state we do not seek God. 2 God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. 3 They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt;there is none who does good, not even one.  (Psalm 53:2-3. ESV) We...keep reading»»

A couple of weeks ago in the conclusion to the “X Marks The Spot” message I made some parental applications that caused a surprising amount of anxiety.  As a pastor sometimes you know exactly what will inspire feedback in your messages and other times you are completely unprepared.  This was one of those times.  In the section of the message dealing with the danger of focusing on outcomes over and against faithful obedience I quoted from Acts 13 which says: 48And when the...keep reading»»

FAQ With Pastor Paul: Equal But Different

Category: General, Pastor's Q&A

Two Sunday’s ago we dealt with an issue that has become quite controversial over the last 30 years.  What we believe about the created nature of men and women hasn’t changed a great deal in the last 2000 years but culture has shifted dramatically and this means that what was once a common cause belief with our friends and neighbours has now become a source of serious misunderstanding and contention.  Even within the Evangelical church there is no longer anything even approaching...keep reading»»

One of our young adults sent me a very insightful question that I thought might be useful to others.  He asked:  Question:  Hi Pastor Paul!  As I’m reading through the Gospel of John, I came to 6:44 “No one comes to me unless the Father who sent me draws him in”. I believe in election and am wondering how it related to “falling away from the faith”. God chooses whom he wills, and to imply that someone has fallen away from God, would be to imply that God has failed, however...keep reading»»

Worship in Spirit and Truth

Category: Spiritual Life, Christian Living

We were made for God's glory; made to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. To understand why were created is to be able to live in response to our designed purpose. What is the starting place of understanding our purpose? The proper response of the creature to the Creator is to worship. In Jesus' discourse with the woman at the well, we discover Jesus' most detailed teaching on the subject of worship.  In His conversation with the Samaritan woman, Jesus confronts her moral state and her...keep reading»»
